Hackathon is a new way of outcomes-oriented working of health innovators and aims for an acquisition of knowledge, which is expected to bring forward new ideas. During Hackathon 2018 of the European Health Forum Gastein (EHFG) on October 2-5 2018 in Bad Gastein (Austria) 35 participants from different backgrounds from 18 countries from all over Europe worked in 7 teams on an innovative solution to a well-defined problem: “How to prevent injuries/death caused by alcohol misuse in the young population?” within 36 hours. The Hackathon organizers were the European Health Forum Gastein and European Institute of Innovation & Technology for healthcare sector (EIT Health), they also covered travel and subsistence costs for the participants.
At the time of Hackathon EHFG has been also hosting a forum of high-ranking politicians and representatives of European regions and World Health Organization “Bold political choices for Agenda 2030”. Participants of the forum ware involved into the Hackathon activities and could contribute to the evaluation of the developed innovative projects.
The two winning teams received jury and audience prizes of 25.000€ in total value, and an additional boot camp participation. We were very happy to get the audience prize for our solution.
